That's one of the WTS myths that I discovered very soon after breaking free. They paint the picture that the only Bible even possess is the family one covered in dust...I bet you can all remember demos on the platform where the householder is asked to produce a bible and promptly blows the dust off it. The message clearly being that only JWs ever read it.
The reality is totally the opposite.
i been bouncing around different posts and there seems .
to be an xtra emphasis lately on attending meetings or .

Hang on, just let me get this right, knowing that:-
- The founder of the WTS based his beliefs and prophecies on "Pyramidology" (a practice later condemned by The Watchtower as being demon based)
- His successor was an alcoholic meglomaniac who used the WTS as his vehicle to acquire power and good living (e.g. Beth Sarim etc.)
- The WTS has rolled out one prophetic date after another that has been proved false showing it to be "A FALSE PROPHET"
- They have destroyed inumerable families with their evil policy on "shunning"
- They have hidden child molesters and paedophiles within their ranks rather than have anything tarnish their so called "good name"
- They have twisted their translation of the Bible to make it fit their own exclusive doctrines
- They have proved time and time again that they do NOT have God's Spirit, and cannot possibly be God's organisation
- They have lied about a whole host of things, most recently their involvement with the UN
- That God said to flee from the False Prophet and also said Satan was the Father of the Lie
Yes, taking all this into account, I can see the ideal place to celebrate the Memorial of Christs death would be a Kingdom Hall -NOT!!!
suddenly i am hit with this overwhelming feeling that we are wrong and that there are logical explanations for all of the things that dont make sense.

Flower, like so many others here I've had those self same feelings and fears.
I went to a Circuit Assembly for a day just to find out if I was really missing out on the real thing after all. After being challenged 5 times as I tried to get in and asked for my "badge" or "Blood Card" (neither of which I possessed) I was only allowed entrance after mentioning the name of a few elders that the attendant happened to also know! I wish they hadn't bothered. Once in there you begin to see the shallowness of what goes on. JW's talk about this great "love" the Witnesses have - but that's conditional. People who had looked up to and respected me during my 10 years as an elder found it difficult to even say hello. (At the time I had simply drifted but my wife had still been going to the occassional meeting).
The talks were boring and misquoted scripture after scripture. The audience were more bothered about seeing who was there that they knew. The boys were looking for girls and vice versa. That one visit proved beyond any doubts I may have had, that Jehovahs Spirit was everywhere BUT there.
I think our minds play little tricks on us. As time goes on the bad things that happen to us in life fade away in our memory so we can remember more of the nice things. It's as though we have this painting in our mind, full of flaws, that we keep touching up so we don't see the flaws anymore. But when take another look at the real things..... there are all those flaws plus many more.

one of the many things that totally amazed me when i first read ray franz's first book was the way in which jw's bribed the authorities to get their "pink slip" to say they had completed military service.
not only that, they were also listed as reservists for the mexican army.. does any one know if those jw's are still listed, and if so, shouldn't they be d?a's by their actions?

on another post a number of days ago it was rumoured that the society were going to announce or had already intimated that due to financial constraints there was to be an immediate stop to all kingdom hall construction worldwide.
if this is true this would be big news!!
can anyone on here, especially jw insiders shed any further light on this matter or offer some sort of evidence that this is/is not so.

thought you'd be interested to know that i have just been forwarded a note from the watch tower, belatedly in response to the tiny little story i got in on 17 november about that chicago jw couple accused of beating their daughter to death.
it is interesting that they shld respond - on headed notepaper, apparently from pennsylvania - nearly a month later about something that really got very little space and i can't help feeling it's not unconnected with the other stuff i was writing at that time.

It's not just the WTS Stephen Bates has writen about, see what was the result after an article about the Cathoplic church which they didn't like.

DAC, I agree with you that it's the fact that they entered into ANY type of links with the UN is flying in the face of their well publicised dogma that is the major issue here.
However, the fact that they have made up this excuse to explain that connection away to the rank & file is an equally important issue. When you consider all the puiblications they have brought out discussing lying and that Satan is the "father of the lie", if people can see they have been lying, it may be easier for them to acknowledge that that is wrong than getting their heads around the pros and cons of having a library card. Especially if they are willing to accept that this information about the alleged requirement or non-requirement for a Library card changes in 1991 actually comes directly from the UN.
Also the matter of why the excuse in other countries was that their status as an NGO allowed them to pursue their humanitarian work more effectively!! WHAT HUMANITARIAN WORK IS THAT, THEN? Again, if they are as unified as they would lead us all to believe, why couldn't they get their story right.
I think this issue has got a lot of JW's flustered who are now struggling with their consiences while trying to resolve all these conflicting stories in their own minds.
